Port expansion talk blends into county politics

I consider the development of the port to be one of our state's greatest economic opportunities and I've proudly attended nearly all port related meetings over the last few years. For 4 years, Mr. Gordon has done a lot of talking but, in reality, this project is no further along today than it was 4 years ago. At this rate, the new Wilmington port should open sometime around the next perihelion of Halley's Comet.

We need serious people to advance this project for the economic benefit of our state, rather than the political gains of a few tired politicians, with long track records of false hope and broken promises, who seek only to use this project as a GOTV strategy for their political campaigns.

Further reducing of reserve levels could cost NCCo its AAA credit rating

Reserve Spending: The Canary in NCC's Coal Mine -
In January 2015 Moody's cautioned New Castle County about what was, at the time, only a modest draw down of reserves. They warned that any "further reducing of reserve levels" could cost NCCo its AAA credit rating. With total disregard to the warnings of the major rating agencies, Gordon and my opponent have since spent an astounding 32% of NCC's available financial reserves (in only 12 months). Currently at $34 million, NCC's available financial reserves sit at the lowest level in decades, placing our AAA credit rating in more jeopardy than it has ever been.

Moody's Rating Agency Report January 2015 Issued Cautionary Notes for New Castle County Government

Whoa, New Castle County Government....Based on County budget documents, additional borrowings of $120 Million will occur by the end of FY 2020....only a few years away.  Moody’s Investor Services in January 2015 advised the County that a “Substantial increase in debt burden” could make the RATING GO DOWN! (Click the link to view the 2015 Moody's Investor Services Report with Highlighted Cautionary Notes)

Financial Shenanigan's in New Castle County's Financial Checkbook

"Over the last 6 months, New Castle County's monthly checkbook has transformed from what was once an easy to read snapshot of available financial reserves to something so complex that even Warren Buffett wouldn't be able to understand. Amid scrutiny of reckless spending of County reserves, NCC has changed its calculation of available financial reserves no less than 3 times in 6 months. These unilateral changes, made without explanation, are indicative of financial shenanigans, designed only to confuse the reader and mask the true state of NCC's financial condition", said Karen Hartley-Nagle.
